Hindsight 20/14
1.
Draft Time: Perry Jones PF 6'11'' 238 22 B+ C C B B- A
Thoughts: Perry Jones was the clear cut #1 pick at the time as the notes showed along with common sense. The only knock on Perry was that he couldn't move to any of the wing positions so he could only be utitlized as a big. There's not much to say about this pick, no reason to question it, perry was the best player period, 76'ers were fortunate to get the #1.
Career Average: 26.3 ppg 11.4 rpg 2.6 apg
Hindsight: He lived up to his hype and became one of the best players in UOSL4 history over the course of his career and it's not even over. His production has finally dropped off this year but he's still performing at an all star level nonetheless and helping his team to one of the best records in the league. He's made five all league first teams over the course of his career and in on his way to making the Hall of Fame. Great pick by the 6'ers but an obvious one.
2.
Draft Time: Michael Gilchrist SF 6'7'' 190 20 A- C C- B C A
Thoughts: He was the only player in the draft that could maybe match perry's upside and push for the number one spot so getting him at #2 is a great grab by the Jazz. A piece they needed to add to AJ Hammons if they wanted to compete in the long run. If my memory serves me well i believed the jazz jumped considerably in order to nab Gilchrist. He seemed like he would be a 16-18 ppg right off the bat without any improvements. Gilchrist at #2 is just as easy a pick as Perry Jones at #1.
Career Average: 19.8 ppg 6.7 rpg
Hindsight: Can't really knock the pick in hindsight, there's maybe only one other player in the draft you'd take here looking back on their careers but Gilchrist is finally starting to maximize his talent. He was considered a minor disappointment early in his career and going into what was supposed to be his prime but you can't argue with the success his teams have had over the years. He broke the 20 ppg only once in his first 7 seasons and didn't break 25 ppg until his 9th season. His numbers this year have been great, but i don't think it's any coincidence that his team is struggling. I don't think he was ever a #1 option on a good team, just a good sidekick. He's still had a pretty good career and i'm sure the jazz would pick him again without thinking twice.
3.
Draft Time: Austin Rivers SG 6'4'' 185 21 B- B+ C C D+ A
Thoughts: I felt like Rivers was easily a top 5 pick on his offense alone and his perceived upside, but i was completely sold on this slot for Austin mainly cause i liked someone else a little more. His defense concerned and even though his perceived upside might have been high i didn't really see him being that great if he reached his potential. Seemed like a 20 ppg in his prime while being a liability on defense, not something you want if you're trying to compete in the future. A high risk, moderate reward pick here.
Now: out of the league already? awk
Hindsight: Although i didn't expect him to be a superstar, i would have never guessed him to be out of the league by now. I looked through every roster and didn't see him. If i missed him, i apologize in advance but shit's just pathetic that he couldn't even last 10 seasons. Definitely a bust pick right here, sucks for Germs. I couldn't even get his numbers cause i couldn't find him no where. Sucks even more when the guy he probably should have picked pans out...
4.
Draft Time: Cory Joseph PG 6'3'' 180 22 B- B B B- D+ B
Thoughts: This is the guy i would have picked at 3. I believe he immediately got traded from the nets to the mavs or something. He doesn't seem like a future superstar but he seemed like a solid 17 and 9 guy in the making at the very least and when a guy has a gaping hole in his game like Rivers, i'll go with the sure thing. He can probably get all B's off of camps alone, let alone any slight tc improvements he might have. Like i said, he'll probably never be a superstar but i wouldn't have been surprised to see him make an all star game here and there.
Career Average: 21.5 ppg 9.2 apg 2.2 topg 1.8 spg
Hindsight: Cory Joseph had Germs regretting Rivers right off the bat and in his rookie year it looked like he was the best player in the whole draft period. He single handedly led the Mavs to a 40 win season right off the bat and they were coming off a tanking year. To date, his rookie year has been his best but he doesn't mean he hasn't been a stud throughout his whole career. He's been steady at 20 and 9 his whole career and is having his best year since his rookie year this season while leading the kings into the playoffs. He turned into the player i thought he'd be, his rookie year shocked me though just like it probably did everyone else. Mavs did well.
5.
Draft Time: Joe Jackson PG 5'11'' 170 21 B+ C- C+ C+ D- A
Thoughts: Not gonna lie, i kind of liked the pick. He's a little raw, more than you probably want out of a 21 year old but he seemed like a boom or bust type and i didn't like the depth of this draft so not a bad pick. If he booms he could be the best pick of the draft, if not, he'll suck balls throughout his career. Jereme Richmond is probably a little bit of a safer pick, but at this point, no one really stands out all that much. Play loves his players from Illinois though so richmond is probably the pick the more i think about it.
Career Average: 4.8 ppg 3.9 apg
Hindsight: Ummm, i was wrong and this guy has been the worst top 5 pick in the history of the league other than maybe rivers lulz. He was an FA the whole season last year and in the offseason until he was signed by the raptors for whatever reason. His averages suck, his career highs suck, his resume period sucks and has been a nice player to have on IR at his very best. Sucks when you strike out on a pick so bad after tanking so hard, disheartening.
6.
Draft Time: Jereme Richmond SF 6'7'' 220 22 B C C- B+ B- A
Thoughts: He looks sexy as fuck no lie and play is loyal to guys he likes in real life so i expected richmond to have a nice career. The anti-Eric Gordon i thought and it's a good risk to take at this point in this sorry ass draft so i really liked the pick. I liked Jabari Brown for some weird reason so he's probably the only other guy i would have taken here. Could potentially be a 20 ppg scorer one day, even if he came up a little short of that he was already great defensively for a rookie and his rebounding was above average.
Now: extinct?
Hindsight: Idk, maybe i'm not looking diligently enough or all these guys suck balls to the point where they aren't even in the league 10 seasons into their potential careers or lack thereof. You don't expect lotto picks to run dry this quickly or suck as much as this crop has, jesus christ. That's two top 10 picks who i can't even find no more. I guess we need to have a shit draft every once in a while, i'm just glad i didn't put too much effort into tanking for this class. Jereme was a bust of the highest degree and I'm embarrassed to ever have liked the dude as a prospect. I guess leaving Illinois early got on play's nerves.
7.
Draft Time: Kyle Wiltjer PF 6'10'' 225 21 C B+ C- C B+ A
Thoughts: An intriguing prospect to say the least. He's probably better suited at SF due to his failure to have any sort of inside game whatsoever for a guy his size but he's a nice pick regardless. We're picking among a bunch of boom or bust types at this point anyways. I don't think he'll turn into much, i just don't like these weird players that don't fit the positions they come into the league as. Plus, his defense sucks so he'll probably be a career bench player probably.
Career Averages: 18.3 ppg 10.0 rpg
Hindsight: If you needed advice for this draft, i wasn't the guy to go to cause i whiffed on all the picks besides the obvious ones. He has arguably been a top 4 player from this draft with his steady and consistent production through the years. He's had about seven or eight 20/10 seasons throughout his career. He's not a superstar in any shape or form but he turned himself into a two time all star and a good under the radar stud. Marty made a good pick here, he traded him soon after picking him after his rookie year. I don't know what he traded him for so I'll hold judgment but the teams that have acquired him through the years have benefited immensely.
8.
Draft Time: Quinn Cook PG 5'11'' 170 21 B- C A- C+ C- B
Thoughts: Solid, i liked Jabari considerably more but i can't know a gm for taking a PG with good handles off the bat and maybe some upside especially at this point in this draft. He looks like he'll be a good distributor at the very least and could be a nice facilitator on a pretty good team if he develops right and is invested into. I don't think he'll ever be an all star but you can't always go for the homerun in the lotto. Pretty solid pick.
Career Averages: 7.3 ppg 4.7 apg
Hindsight: Ten season into his career and he has been exactly what i have been predicted, solid. He wasn't a starter like i envisioned him being by he's been a nice distributor and a nice facilitator and very reliable with the ball in his hands. His career high in turnovers was 2.1 and his career average has been 1.3. Yea, he hasn't gotten a huge amount of minutes but that's pretty solid regardless. Only averaged 2.0 and 1.7 topg in the two seasons he got 30+ minutes per game. This draft suck and picking someone solid even if he was a career backup isn't bad.
9.
Draft Time: Jabari Brown SG 6'5'' 200 21 B C+ C- C+ C- A
Thoughts: I liked this pick, i would have taken him as early as 6 or 7 so i like the value the raptors got right here. I feel like eventually he'll be like a B B+ type player if he progresses reasonably but you never know. An 'A' scouted something adds value foolishly with some guys and this could easily be the case for me here. I feel like everyone else at this point will suck so why not take a chance on a guy with some scouted upside lol.
Career Average: 6.2 ppg 2.3 rpg
Hindsight: Meh, he fucking sucked. Probably had like 50 potential and shit. He never amounted to anything. He's basically Joe Jackson part 2 in this draft and it seems like none of these guys at this point are panning out. Jabari only scored double digits twice so far in his career and he's sucked in every other year. Just an all around scrub, it seems like unless you were in the top 2 or 3 you were fucked in this draft cause no one has been a 'steal' up to this point. Just a wasted year on the cy for the raptors.
10.
Draft Time: Ray McCallum PG 6'1'' 185 21 C+ C+ B- B- D B
Thoughts: I like Ray, but only cause i like him in real life. In this league and in the draft file he doesn't look all that great really. I don't know why he was picked this early, nothing really stands out. He sucks offensively and is just alright in handles and defense and horrible in rebounding even for a point guard. The caliber of guys available at this point seem to be guys you'd find in the middle to late first in most other drafts. Probably could have gotten a late first for free in some draft and shat a player the same caliber as ray onto your team if you really wanted a shit PG.
Career Average: 5.6 ppg 3.1 apg
Hindsight: Yea, he sucks balls just like i thought he would but hey, at least he's still in the league! lol. His ratings actually don't look that bad right now, he looks like a decent backup at this point in his career but he ain't even getting no playing time lol, figures. He was a open fa pickup and has never done anything worth mentioning in his career so i'm running out of shit to say.
11.
Draft Time: Kevin Huang C 7'1'' 260 19 C+ C+ D- B C+ A
Thoughts: I liked this dude a lot as you can tell, i picked him and I'm surprised he even fell to me. Dude looks raw as fuck but he has nice outside for a big and he's still only 19. He could be one of those boom or bust types which is exactly what i target in the late lotto area. His handling is a concern, but that's not a big deal for a big unless he's a complete TO whore. I like what this guy could maybe one day become, but he might also bust on me. I'll take the risk though.
Now: doesn't exist?
Hindsight: Another dude who is nowhere to be found. I was completely wrong on this guy also and i'm just glad i wasn't the one he boned when he completely busted. I was able to package him in a deal with Tyreke before he had that crucial tc where he didn't do shit and i got lucky, i traded him just in time. If i hold on to him until tc, i probably get cy'd that year. Thank god for Spence and his love for Evan Fournier who i also package in that deal. It's depressing when i can't even put career averages for these guys.
12.
Draft Time: Zach Price C 6'10'' 250 20 B- D C- C+ B- B
Thoughts: There were a couple guys i liked better that weren't even picked in the lotto but that was just cause they had 'A' pot so price is probably the best pick at this point if you take scouted potential out of the equation. If he has some hidden potential he could be nice but this draft is starting to tail off big time and we're not even out of the lotto yet. I only see this guy being a 12/10 type guy at the very best.
Now: umm, gone also?
Hindsight: Another guy whose not even in the league, why did i even do this draft? seriously. I knew this draft was bad at the time, but i didn't think it would suck this bad and i'm not even being sarcastic. Like hot damn, is this a record for lotto picks out of the league within 10 seasons? Any minimal expectations i had of zach price was too much apparently. I can't wait till i do a non shitty draft.
13.
Draft Time: Michael Chandler C 6'10'' 210 21 C+ C- D+ B B- B
Thoughts: Same shit as Zach Price here, a couple guys i like more for dumb reasons but i think i like chandler a little more cause it looks like he specializes in something which is defensively. His potential is probably far from nice but he might become one of those 11 rpg 2 bpg type big men. You'd probably like something with the chance to return bigger reward but that's not available in this draft so teams are just picking shit players right now.
Now: sucked?
Hindsight: Fuck this guy right here, he sucked and proof is provided when i can't even find his ass. I wish i can at least see some of these guys stats. Was chandler good? lol. Out of all the hindsight articles i've done, this has been the most grueling and least pleasant one. Five players from this lotto are no longer in the league and it's not due to retirements.
