Hindsight 20/15
1.
Draft Time: Ricardo Ledo SG 6'7'' 210 20 B B- C- B- D+ A
Thoughts: If i remember correctly i think this was a pick from another team. Anyways, Ledo was the consensus #1 once the notes came out and probably even before that. He is already above average in all the ratings you target at SG for a rookie and it looked like his upside was crazy. He is only 20 also, so the pick was obvious and the Rockets were already a good team and Ledo on top of that was just sick. Ledo has superstar potential and i fully expected him to become one to be honest.
Career Average: 15.9 ppg 4.0 rpg
Hindsight: Ummm, this is pretty surprising. Even if he never became a superstar i fully expected him to become a perennial all star or something. He had like one or two all star type seasons maybe but besides that he was nothing more than a good 3rd or 4th option on a great team. He only surpassed 20 ppg in a season once and hasn't done more than 16.7 ppg since his 4th season in the league. He reached his peak at 24 and went downhill from there, not something you want from a former #1 overall pick. You can't argue with his team success but it makes you wonder how much better the rockets might have been had he fulfilled his potential.
2.
Draft Time: Isaiah Austin C 7'2'' 255 20 B C- C- C A- A
Thoughts: The 76'ers get a big to pair up with Perry Jones and a pretty good one at that. This is their 2nd consecutive pick in the top 2 and they're making the most of it. Just like Ledo at #2, i felt like Austin was the only logical choice in this spot at the time. Even though his defense might be a liability throughout his career, he looks great in the other big men cats and whose to say his defense won't at least become decent in the future. I see him being like a 16/13 player at the very least if he's camped. Great player to pair with perry.
Career Average: 16.1 ppg 11.3 rpg
Hindsight: It turns out, he might have been the better player between him and Ledo. I doubt anyone saw this coming, but 76'ers got the best player here so far. He struggled over his first few years but he seems to have hit his stride with the Suns. After bouncing around 5 teams in his first 7 seasons he finally had his first 20 ppg in his 7th season and hasn't fallen below since as he seems to be hitting his prime. He's been good for 22 ppg and 12 rpg at least over the last few years and he's doing it again this year on a playoff team. His defense is mediocre like we all expected, but he makes up for it in the other aspects of his game.
3.
Draft Time: Khem Birch PF 6'9'' 231 21 B- D+ D A- C+ A
Thoughts: He looks like a top 3 caliber pick, his main weakness is rebounding and he has that scouted pot most gm's go for. Broph raised a lot of red flags in the notes that made me question his slotting here. He was mostly athletic and was weak for a big man. In the notes it also said whoever he was picked by was going to need to be patient with him and those aren't the words you really wanna hear from a 21 year old. If he develops right and reaches some of his potential i can see him being a 20/10 type guy though. Not a great pick, but a pretty solid one.
Career Average: 6.0 ppg 9.5 rpg
Hindsight: Ehh, he looked decent so i can't really blame the hawks for taking him here, but this is hindsight and he sucked. Who would've guessed that his biggest strength over the course of his career would be what he came in having a weakness in. He could have really been nice with nice potential, just an unfortunate pick here. The hawks held on to him for 7 seasons waiting for him to turn into something and he never did. If you want to look at the bright side at least he's not out of the league and puts up good enough numbers to be considered a nice backup.
4.
Draft Time: Sheldon McClellan SG 6'6'' 195 22 C B+ C+ B C+ A
Thoughts: This draft is a little more stacked at SG than your typical draft, but after Ledo you could have went either way among the others. Sheldon looks nice, but if i would have been picking here chances are i would have picked Brad Beal, but like i said, it's a crapshoot among the 3. It said in his notes that he'd never really be a good option so that turned me off a little until i read the "he should be a very nice player" part. Solid pick by the Celtics, hopefully he pans out. I seem to turn away form wings who have C inside or C defense, i don't know why.
Career Average: 19.7 ppg 8.2 rpg
Hindsight: He turned out alright, pretty good actually. He's averaged 20 ppg over his career and his rebounding has been great for a wing player. He had a ROY caliber year in his rookie year, seemed like he would maybe be on his way to being a 25 ppg player but didn't break 20 ppg until his 6th season. It turns out this was a great pick and the Lakers were able to get the most out of him as he set career highs. I'm sure the Celtics would have signed up for a career 20 ppg player with this pick and that's exactly what they got.
5.
Draft Time: Anthony Davis PF 6'10'' 237 22 B- C C- B+ B- B
Thoughts: SMFH with this one. I have no idea who the magic gm was but damn, davis at top 5? really? In the notes he was considered a solid pick at late lotto to mid first round and here the magic gm goes taking him in the top 5. I mean, he doesn't even have ratings that would justify him being taken right here. There's a handful of guys who are easily better than him and probably have more upside too. Magic gm probably just made this pick straight off the name without really using common sense.
Career Average: 12.3 ppg 8.6 rpg
Hindsight: After looking through the rosters quickly, i couldn't find him, i had to double check and yea he sucked. I can't say i didn't see this one coming though, he wasn't supposed to be pick for another 10 picks and nothing really stood out. He's had one great year, but that's about it. You can't really say he's a bust cause he was never really expected to be all that good, just a bad pick with a predictable ending. He was solid i guess, but the guys he passed up on have turned out way better.
6.
Draft Time: Brad Beal SG 6'3'' 180 21 C+ B C B C- A
Thoughts: I like this pick, probably could have been picked one or two slots sooner. Could have gone before mclellan and definitely should have gone ahead of Anthony Davis so i like the picks for the bucks here. This is a big draft for the bucks since they have 3 lottos and i feel they start off on the right foot. He has pretty good upside and is a well rounded player, so say the notes and i think he'll be a 20 ppg player for sure in the prime of his career. I love the pick here.
Career Average: 20.1 ppg 4.9 rpg
Hindsight: He turned out as i thought he would. I probably didn't expect him to put up 26 ppg and 27 ppg type seasons but i was strongly leaning towards him over McClellan. I sure as heck didn't expect him to become arguably the best player in the draft though but he's been that good. He's averaged more than 25 ppg five times in his career and only one all star game but he's been an intricate part on one of the best teams over the last few years. He'll probably eventually make the hall of fame, but it's crazy to think he might not even be the best player picked by the thunder in this draft.
7.
Draft Time: Dajuan Coleman C 6'10'' 303 20 B- C- D B+ B B
Thoughts: I liked the pick. He'll probably never be a star but with AC's alone i saw him being: B, B+, B in the big man cats without including natural development or AC's and freebies. There's a chance he could be a pretty good player too and exceed expectations. I expect him to be 15 ppg and 10 rpg with maybe 2 bpg which isn't bad for a role playing big. I like the pick, not really risky or flashy, just solid.
Now: disappeared.
Hindsight: I didn't find this guy nowhere, not even fa so there's not much i can say about him as far as his career goes without his player page in front of me. If i missed him, my bad but he looked like a decent prospect coming in and to see guys flame out that quick is always disappointing so of course the pick is a fail. I don't know why, i have a bad feeling i missed him, did he really flame out that quick? dude looked solid. Looks like i was wrong.
8.
Draft Time: P.J. Hairston SG 6'4'' 230 22 B+ C- D+ B+ D+ A
Thoughts: Love the pick by marty here. A solid player who might not ever be a superstar but will definitely be someone who can average around 17-18 ppg at the very least if he's RC'd. Some freebies and AC's and he could be super good since outside is probably the easiest category to develop. The only red flag is that his inside scoring could be inflated by his jumping but either way, i love this pick by marty. Steal i think.
Career Averages: 22.5 ppg 4.9 rpg .512 fg%
Hindsight: Dude has been one of the most efficient players in the league since he came in. He's averaged 50% of higher from the field in 8 of his 10 seasons and the only ones he hasn't reached that clip have turned out to be his two highest point production totals. His career low in points is 18.3 ppg which he accomplished his rookie year and he's been a part of some pretty good teams. It sucks HF couldn't really receive a lot of interest for him back when he was looking to trade him but the Bucks got themselves a steal. He's averaging a career high 30 ppg this season, crazy. Top 5 player from this draft no doubt.
9.
Draft Time: Myck Kabongo PG 6'3'' 190 21 B C- B+ C+ D+ B
Thoughts: I don't hate the pick but i do kind of dislike it. If you're going to take a PG at this point, i probably would have picked BJ Young. Not because i think he'll be a stud or anything, but i think myck lacks any sort of potential really. I think he'll be a good backup PG who plays 18 mpg pretty well, but never really a starter on a good team. His handle ratings his high but it's kind of pointless if he still has turnover problems as pointed out in his notes. At least Young has some upside.
Career Average: 7.0 ppg 5.1 rpg
Hindsight: He's basically what i thought he'd be. I nice role player or backup but nothing to include in the long term future of any club so the pick is a disappointment. You can always get a backup point guard in FA or something, so i just think using a lotto pick on one is kind of pointless. There's always that chance i guess that a player can have some hidden potential, but that wasn't the case here. You're better off picking your backup point guard late in the first round.
10.
Draft Time: Rodney Hood SF 6'8'' 195 21 B+ C+ C- C C A
Thoughts: "...its questionable whether he develops into anything more than a dunk contest participant." That's all i got to say. I guess this late in the lotto we tend to go for a guy who might look like he has upside over a solid guy you know will be solid. Rodney hood looks like he'll either suck balls or be good but he has way too much to overcome in order to be good so i think he'll suck. He's more of a mid first caliber type player, there's a few guys i like better at this spot so i almost feel like it's a wasted pick. Sucks, cause i love their first pick.
Career Average: nada
Hindsight: Did he even become a dunk contest participant? I never really heard of him doing much so i'm going to assume he didn't. Plus, he's no longer in the league so that's an easy assumption to make. Looks like there was nothing hidden in the prospect. "nothing more than a dunk contest participant". Bucks took a chance, but at least they came away with one good player in the lotto.
11.
Draft Time: B.J. Young PG 6'2'' 170 21 B- C+ C+ C+ D+ A
Thoughts: I did not pick this dude, this pick was traded in a deal involving Kevin Huang and Evan Fournier for Tyreke and i wouldn't have made this pick. i thought it was horrible to be honest. Spence asked me who he thought he should take here and i told him Tony Farmer but i guess the fact he didn't have notes kind of scared him off a little and i don't blame him all that much, but meh. BJ Young looks so raw and i doubt he has enough potential to become good. Of course, he could blow up and i look like an idiot.
Now: assumed dead
Hindsight: Don't see him, don't wanna check rosters for the 100th time. If he did anything over the course of his career i'm sure i'd remember but i believe he was traded for trash after his first tc so that pretty much says it all. A boom or bust prospect that busted. Should have taken Tony Farmer.
12.
Draft Time: Adonis Thomas SF 6'8'' 211 21 B- B- B- B- B- C
Thoughts: I thought thomas was an interesting pick here. He seemed pretty decent at every aspect of his game but his potential was a major question mark. He had a big red flag with the knee injury coming into the league, but i can see why the Bucks decided to take a risk here. We see players in these leagues with red flags develop nicely all the time and those are some pretty sick starting ratings so although i didn't love the pick, i liked it a little. Looks like he could be a good role player at the very least.
Career Average: 7.6 ppg 5.2 rpg
Hindsight:Meh, he's been pretty much mediocre over the course of his career. He had a good 2nd season in the league but never improved or even duplicated it. He was a solid role player, but nothing that you'd really go out of your way to keep on your team. He's currently an FA and i doubt anyone picks him up unless they need a filler so he could be out of the league period pretty quickly. He never could overcome those red flags in his notes.
13.
Draft Time: Johnny O'Bryant PF 6'10'' 260 22 B D- D- C+ A- B
Thoughts: Like the pick, the only guy i'd take over O'bryant at this point is Tony Farmer, but Farmer seems like more of a boom or bust type. The only knock on the pick is the fact it was auto'd for HF once again, so he can't really take credit for this one. He looks like a rebounding force at worst and with camps alone, he should be like 15/12 or something close.
Career Average: 17.9 ppg 12.9 rpg 1.9 bpg
Hindsight: Turns out dude was a stud off the bat, he had a good tc going into his rookie year and never really looked back. He was up and down over his first few years but then he had career highs in his contract year which put him on the map and earned him a max. He hasn't looked back since as he's averaged 18 and 13 consistently over the last few seasons. The surprising aspect of his game has been his defense, it's now at A- and even though he's having a down year dude's still a stud. Great pick.
"Steal" - 21 Oklahoma City Thunder - Tony Farmer PF 6'10'' 257 19 B C C C+ C+ A
- I wanted this dude in lotto before i traded the pick, should have made a move to get a first, meh. Love him, He and Beal probably ended up being the two best player in the draft, great draft by Thunder.
