The 2019 Draft is all about Andrew Wiggins, well not really, but he is that good...the Canadian Phenom has decided to make some team extremely happy, and declared. He has good strength, a nose for getting to the rim, and a workable outside game. He is a solid rebounder, though not great. However, Wiggins racks up the stats on the defensive end, he is a defensive nightmare, capable of 2 steals and blocks on average already, and probably a DPOY candidate if he can improve his rebounding. Wiggins should be a 25 point 8 rebound 2 steal 2 block guy, if not better, and good for all star games year in and year out.
Cliff Alexander C 7'2'' 275 21 B C D- C B A
Alexander is known for his strength and size, at 7'2” 275 he is tough to miss. He has no trouble at all with anybody outmuscling him, and he knows how to use his strength on the offensive side of the court. His size and strength are just the tip though, he shows a solid understanding of post moves, and has shown off a soft touch from midrange. He isnt going to overwhelm with athleticism, he is a bit slow on his feet, and is not a shotblocker at all. There are worries about his handles as well, he played smart in the NCAA tournament, but, thgrought the season he had some scary turnover games, possibly a product of him being the focal point of the Illinois offense following Hamilton Jr.'s and Jabari Parkers departure. His positional D is surprisingly pretty good, but he can struggle with fouls, and his lack of shotblocking makes him an easy target for wings, who know to drive right at him, as he wont really bother anything. Scouts do think he could be a Carlos Boozer type player, only bigger.
DaKari Johnson C 7'0'' 250 21 B D+ C- B- B- B
Johnson is pretty strong, has a decent feel in the post, and is a solid rebounder. However, Scouts havent't been amazed at anything theyve seen. He can block a bit, score a bit, rebound a bit, but he just hasnt shown enough to be considered a top tier guy. He could be a solid starter though if given time and work.
Jahlil Okafor C 6'11'' 280 21 C D D A- B+ B
Okafor is exactly what you would expect out of a defensive big. He alters shots at the rim, rebounds well, and is strong enough not to be a liability in the post, however, he has Ben Wallace like potential on the offensive end. He has pretty much no post game, and doesnt shoot free throws well. His potential is therefore limited to a nice defensive big, nothing more really.
Trayvon Reed C 7'0'' 235 21 C B- D+ B- B- A
Reed has a solid outside game, which is his selling point as a possible lotto pick. He doesnt block well though, and he shys away from playing inside, which is worrisome. He has nice potential, but his game is also very raw, maybe too raw.
Dre Banks PF 6'9'' 225 21 B- C- D+ B- C+ A
Banks is undersized, and underwhelming strength wise. He would be best served by a move away from the post position, if he werent so slow , but that has pretty much kept him in the post for his entire career. He shows decent post moves, good post D, and good upside, but his lack of strength is a worry.
Ian Theisen PF 6'11'' 240 22 B+ F+ D- B+ B+ D
Thiesen started falling off after dominating his first two years in college, and it has puzzled scouts. He was absolutely dominant in his freshman season, and in his sophomore year he seemingly became a household name, then suddenly it was like the wheels came off, after averaging 27 and 13 with three blocks his first two seasons, Theisen dropped to 21 and 11 with 2 his Junior season. By his senior season at UCLA, Theisen had dropped to 17 points 9 rebounds, and was struggling to stay on the court.
Scouts were looking for any reason they could find, but were puzzled by his drop in production. It was announced following his senior season that Thiesen would have to undergo double microfracture surgery on both knees, and following the surgery doctors gave a poor prognosis, while Theisen would be able to play, his star athleticism was pretty much done. He had excellent post moves and strength, but without his athleticism, Thiesen is pretty much as good as he will ever be right now, he is slow, and cant move well at all. Still, Theisen should be a productive player as long as his knees hold up.
Justin King PF 6'10'' 233 21 B- C D C A- A
King makes his living cleaning up the offensive glass, and in this draft there is nobody better. He has solid post moves, and serviceable strength, but, he is not a defender at all. He has a solid jump shot, and can even step out to knock down the three if he absolutely has to take the shot, but hopefully thats a rare occurance. Really not all that athletic, so its tough to see him becoming an outstanding player, but he could be pretty nice.
Leron Black PF 6'11'' 245 21 C+ D B+ B+ C+ A
Black has an uncanny knack for passing...which is good, cause boy is he a question mark on offense. He hasnt shown much skill at anything related to scoring, and has more interest in passing the ball to the wings. He is an amazing positional defender, and can handle anybody from PG-C, but, dont expect him to rack up stats. Its tough to know what to think of Black, but he has excellent upside...thing is, he is probably best served as a great backup, the kinda guy you stick at backup 1-5.
Jonathan Carson SF 6'5'' 180 19 C+ C+ C+ B C A
Carson has a solid all around game, but, he isnt really great at anything, he isnt a great shooter, is slow on his feet, is undersized, and isnt very strong...he does show some explosiveness at the rim though, and is a solid defender. At Wisconsin he was never asked to carry any of the scoring load, and so he never really showed anything there. He takes good care of the ball and passes well, and at just 19 he has a lot of time to grow.
Ricky Council SF 6'7'' 210 24 B B C B C B
Council chose to go on a two year Mormon mission, and so he is quite old for a Rookie. He doesnt wow you with anything, but he plays a pretty solid game all around. He isnt going to be an amazing player, but he is smart, and should be a nice starter, especially if he gets work.
Stanley Jackson SF 6'8'' 200 21 C+ A- C- C+ C A
Stanley is a sharpshooter, with an excellent three point shot, though he does struggle a bit from the FT line He isnt a great athlete....he is pretty slow, and he does have some turnover issues. Nice upside, should be a nice outside offense guy.
Trevon Bluiett SF 6'7'' 190 21 C+ B C+ C+ C- A
Bluiett is raw, but like Carson has a solid all around game..he just isnt 19 like Carson. Bluiett shows a nice outside game, but isn't a great defender, and is pretty weak, his rebounding is pretty shitty as well.
Might be more of a SG.
Vic Law SF 6'10'' 200 21 A- D D+ C C- A
Law is fun to watch, no doubt...teams sag off of him and yet he still finds a way to get to the hoop and score, he has great strength despite his seemingly twig like frame. However, the knock on him is entirely obvious....he has NO outside game at all, he doesnt pass well, and his defense in the post is nowhere near enough to play him at PF...as well as his rebounding. Still he has sky high potential as a scorer if he can just learn to shoot.
D'Angelo Russell SG 6'4'' 188 22 B- B C- C D+ A
Russell is a scorer, he has a knack for finding his way to the hoop, and averaged 25 points a game at Louisville, however, he doesnt defende well at all, he struggles with turnovers, and he isnt very strong. He should be a nice scorer, but the rest of his game will probably hold him back from ever being a star.
Jordan Green SG 6'1'' 195 22 C+ C+ D+ B+ B- A
Green is a role player for sure, at least in his rookie year. He has great rebounding skills despite being just 6'1, and he is a pest defensively, with excellent stealing skills, however, he also is a bit careless with the ball on offense. He is a solid athlete, not standout or anything, but good. His outside game is ehhh, he has an awkward form which may hold him back from ever being a great shooter, but, he is willing to do the dirty work.
Ronnie Clark SG 6'7'' 180 21 B+ C+ C- C C A
Vince Carter? Clark reminds many of Vince when he was first coming into the league, he is an amazing athlete, but also fairly strong, and knows how to put the ball in the hoop, Scouts are in love with his potential, but, he is a very poor defender, and he may have some ball handling issues.
Shaqquan Aaron SG 6'8'' 198 22 C+ B- A- B- C- A
Aaron is a great passing Wing, who is genious with the ball in his hands, he does not turn it over. At 6'8, handling the PG position night in night out would take a toll on him, he just cant guard opposing PG's, as he is a bit slow. He has decent offensive skills, solid defensive skills, and scouts love his potential.
Aaron cannot play Point Guard, not even with a -30 handles, though he can backup the position.
Shep Garner SG 6'4'' 190 21 C A- C C D A
Garner has a pretty outside stroke, and should be an excellent marksman at the next level, however, he struggles off the dribble, and his D is poor. His shooting will be a plus, but it may be tough for him to develop into more than a nice bench shooter, as he is quite raw everywhere else.
Theo Pinson SG 6'3'' 200 23 C B+ C B C+ A
Pinson is a shooter, with the ability to rebound well and play solid D. He is quick, and uses his quicks well to get steals, he takes care of the ball well as well, however, he struggles majorly to create his own shot and will probably never be more than a Shane Battier type with more steals.
Brent Bach PG 6'2'' 200 23 C+ C C+ B C A
Brent Bach is a bit of a mystery coming out of Wichita State, He is an excellent perimeter defender, and very quick, but he plays a bit out of control. He is pretty strong for a PG, and can shoot the three, but he struggles at the FT line. Its questionable whether he can ever become an effective PG.
Larry Austin PG 6'7'' 210 22 C+ B- C+ B- C A
Austin is a very tall Point Guard. He is strong for a PG, and while he may struggle a bit with turnovers out of the gate, he should develop into a nice PG turnover wise in time. Right now he shows a lot of potential, but he isnt all that young. He is just barely quick enough to not be a liability, and his positional defense is solid. He rebounds well as well. Should be a nice starting PG.
Marcellus Lewis PG 6'4'' 190 21 B C+ C+ C+ C B
Lewis is amazing at getting to the hoop and scoring, he has a decent all around game after that. He isnt a great athlete, and struggles with turnovers though some, which could hold him back. More of a tweener really, and may be best served off the bench at PG/SG.
Peyton Allen PG 6'3'' 187 21 B- C B+ C+ C B
Allen is a coaches Dream. He is an excellent floor general, with solid ball handling skills, passing skills. Think Andre Miller really. He doesnt have great potential, but, he should be a solid player
