Constraints: Player has competed in more than 10 games as well as averaging over 8 minutes per game this season thru sim day 99.
Took PPG, RPG, APG, SPG, BPG, TPG and converted them into what the player would average over a full 48 minutes of playing time to make it a closer comparison.
This time around I tweaked the formula used last season a bit to give the wings, SF/SG position, a chance to compete in the rankings given the feedback from the previous article.
Formula for C/PF/PG: (PPG x 1 + RPG x 1.5 + APG x 2 + SPG x 2.5 + BPG x 2.5 + TPG x -2)**
Formula for SF/SG: (PPG x 1.10 + RPG x 1.5 + APG x 2 + SPG x 2.5 + BPG x 2.5 + TPG x -2)**
** Values used are the stats per 48 minutes of play
10. Blake Griffin PF – 69.32 Los Angles Clippers
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
54 35.8 27.5 11.9 3 0.6 0.9 1.7 0.467 0.716 0
At 31 years of age Blake Griffin is leaving his mark as one of the better PF’s currently in UOSL4. In 36 minutes of play Blake is averaging over 27 points and nearly 12 rebounds for the mediocre Clippers (30-33). The stats he is putting up is in line with his career averages which shows he is not slumping as he ages. Since being taken 15th overall in the creation draft (2010) he has been an active contributor on all of his teams and played the majority of his bright career in Phoenix. With the 2020 season coming to a close shortly he is 7th in points per game, 27.5, as well as 2nd in free throw attempts per game with 11.3.
9. Brandon Jennings PG – 69.40 Golden State Warriors
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
69 38.7 22.5 6.6 11.5 2.4 0.3 3.1 0.495 0.952 0.454
Brandon Jennings is a leading man at his position. Brandon was named POTW twice this season as well as POTM once. He is in the final year of his contract and if he does not resign he would be a great addition to a team that wants to compete at a higher level. Jennings not only scores 22.5 points in nearly 40 minutes but he also adds over 11 assists per game. It is surprising that he is the second leading scorer on the 1st place Warriors (52-17) squad. Brandon is having his best year thus far in assists, rebounds, steals, and shooting %’s. He is showing no signs on slowing up. Jennings is leading the league in assists per game, 3rd in steals, 2nd in FT% and 9th for 3PT%. His downfall that can not be overlooked is his turnovers. Averaging 3.1 per game is not what you are looking for but with a sub 4 TO to Assist ratio the Warriors will take it. Damn, look at those percentages!
8. John Wall PG – 69.76 Houston Rockets
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
67 38.5 26 6.2 9.3 2.3 0.2 2.1 0.455 0.805 0.412
John Wall runs the show in Houston. The Rockets (40-27) leading scorer is locked down for two more seasons and looks to bring more success to the fans in Texas. Over 38.5 minutes of play, Wall, is averaging 26 PPG while also collecting over 9 dimes. On the defensive end he is contributing by stealing the ball over 2 times per game. As a PG he limits his turnovers to just over 2 per game which is acceptable. Wall has played his entire career with the Rockets since being selected 12th overall in the 2010 creation draft. In 2018 he led the Rockets to a championship while being named the Playoff MVP. John was selected as POTW three times this season as well as consecutive POTM early on in the season. Surprisingly John Wall only cracks the leader boards in two categories, Steals (9th) and FG attempts per game (9th).
7. Andre Drummond C – 69.90 Detroit Pistons
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
66 35.4 17.4 13.3 2.4 0.7 4.1 1.3 0.443 0.543 0
Drummond is the first Center mentioned in the rankings. He is an all around contributor the Pistons (47-19). Not only does he put up over 17 points and 13 rebounds per game Andre also swats the ball over 4 times per game in 35 minutes of play. During the offseason Drummond chose to resign with Detroit leaving the rest of the league with out his services. He is under contract until he is 31 so if you want him your going to have to trade for him. He was selected as the number 1 overall pick in the 2016 draft and has proven his worth. Drummond appears on the leader board in 3rd for rebounds, 2nd in blocks, and gets to the line enough to be 8th in FT attempts. He is also seen on the fouls per game leader board at 3.7 per game which isn’t a major concern but could be improved.
6. Kasey Hill PG – 70.52 Portland Trailblazers
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
27 38.8 23.9 5.4 11.1 1.9 0.1 1.1 0.474 0.846 0.376
Yea, yea we know Tmacz, "Kasey Hill is the best player in the league…" Why is he at #6!?!?! Hill has been injured for the majority of the season which could possibly have inflated his numbers a tad because he has only played 27 games. Hill is without a doubt the best PG in the league and at 25 he will remain at the top for years to come. Kasey was the 7th selection in the first round of the 2013 draft. Coming into the league out of high school it did not take long to transition to playing at a higher level. His second year in he was putting up numbers any team would love their PG to post. Each year his turnovers have decreased and with a 10 to 1 TO to assist ratio he is stellar. Throw in 24 PPG and nearly 2 steals per game and you have yourself a complete PG. Kasey Hill was named POTW once before going down with an injury and he fails to crack the leader boards in any category (most likely due to a minimum game requirement). Since returning Hill has righted the ship in Portland (38-29) and they look to be a contender & make it to at least the 2nd round of the playoffs this year.
5. Derrick Rose PG – 71.21 Chicago Bulls
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
64 39.6 31.7 3.9 10.7 1.5 0.1 2.1 0.499 0.846 0.449
Derrick Rose finds himself at number 5 in these rankings. The Bull’s leading scorer is having a great year playing PG. In just under 40 minutes of playing time Rose is putting up over 31 points per game as well as over 10 assists. His %’s are also looking great shooting nearly 50% from the field and 45% from being the arc. Not many weaknesses can be seen with Rose but the Bulls as a team have been less than adequate. Some fans in Chicago are shaking their heads at the current record of 32-36. That is under .500 with a team full of studs and above average players. The Bulls will have a lot of roster space freeing up this offseason but not much money to extend offers. Rose can be found on the leader board for PPG (3rd), Assists per game (6th), FG% (8th), as well as minutes, FG attempts & 3pt attempts. Derrick has been named POTW 4 times this season.
4. Kyle Wiltjer SF – 71.65 Minnesota Timberwolves
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
68 32.6 23.1 12.5 1.8 1 0.4 1.3 0.479 0.864 0.423
At age 27 Kyle Wiltjer is putting up 23 points per game and 12.5 rebounds in just 33 minutes of play. Both of these numbers for a SF are great and the T-Wolves (31-37) have a gem in Kyle. Wiltjer is under contract for a few more seasons and looks to bring some success to the Minnesota area. Kyle is leading his team in points per game as well as rebounds. Minnesota needs to surround Kyle and their other standouts, Chris Thomas & Darwin Drake, to have a complete team. Kyle was selected as the 7th pick in the 2014 draft and once acquired by the T-Wolves he blossomed into an awesome scorer/rebounder. Kyle currently ranks 7th in the rebounding leader board.
3. Will Barton SG – 72.71 Indiana Pacers
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
64 39.3 37.8 7.1 1.8 2.4 0.2 1.4 0.507 0.929 0.438
Will Barton is the only SG to crack the top ten and is sitting at number 3 overall. Barton has been on a roll this season shooting lights out from the field and scoring almost as many points as minutes he has played. In just over 39 minutes of playing time, Barton, score just under 38 points as well as grabbing 7 rebounds and stealing the ball nearly 2.5 times per game. He can not be contained. The Indiana Pacers (51-14) are dirty, very dirty. Barton leads the Pacers in PPG as well as SPG. I find it a bit shocking to only see him make POTW once this season. Will is leading the league in points per game and also appears in the Top 10 for: Steals, FG%, FT%, Minutes, 3P attempts & FG attempts. Will Barton is a former number 1 overall selection for the 2012 draft and has played his entire career in Indiana. Barton will be expiring come next season and many GM’s hope to snag him in free agency.
2. Carmelo Anthony SF – 78.41 New York Knicks
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
40 24.7 26 5.3 1.1 1 0.6 1.2 0.528 0.857 0.479
Carmelo Anthony has ruined any chance for the New York Knicks (31-39) to have a top 10 draft selection for the upcoming draft. The Knicks have been actively trying to deal this standout athlete with no luck. At age 36 he continues to produce on a less than average team. The NYK have tried to limit his playing time getting just under 25 minutes per game in 40 games. In those 25 minutes he has produced 26 points per game as well as 5 rebounds. Melo continues to shoot at a great clip as well, nearly 53% from the field and 48% from 3 point range. Carmelo is in his final year of his contract and he could be a great addition to a contending team or perhaps retire and start other ventures outside of UOSL4. Anthony ranks 2nd and 3rd on the leader board for FG% & 3PT%, respectively.
1. A.J. Hammons C- 84.33 Utah Jazz
Games MPG PPG RPG APG SPG BPG TPG FG% FT% 3P%
67 33.1 27.4 13.7 1.4 1.4 2.6 1.3 0.462 0.856 0.419
Yet again Hammons finds himself atop this ranking. He killed the competition by just under 6 points. A.J. Hammons is the most complete player that UOSL4 has to offer. He is undoubtedly the best player in the league. This is fact and is not arguable. Hammons contributes on all fronts. In just over 33 minutes of playing time A.J. beasts with over 27 PPG, 13.7 RPG, 1.4 SPG, & 2.6 BPG. At age 26 and 7’ tall he can still shoot from behind the arc at a good %. The fans in Utah are not pleased with the showing of this squad this season. To be so close last year to a championship and then to come back the next season with a 38-29 showing is not acceptable for the organization. Their have not been major player changes so maybe a few tweaks and this team will be back in time for the playoffs. For the Jazz, A.J. Hammons is the leading scorer, rebounder, as well as defensive contributor. A.J. has no weaknesses and is locked down to a deal that will have Hammons in Utah for many years. Hammons was named POTW once this season and can be found in on the leader board for PPG (8th), RPG (2nd), and FG attempts per game.
