Hindsight 20/16
1.
Draft Time: Andre Drummond C 6'11'' 275 21 B+ D+ C- B- B- A
Thoughts: Pistons win the lotto in a top 2 heavy draft. There's only two realistic choices here, it's either Drummond or Shabazz. Shabazz is a wing though so the big will always be more sought after and rightfully so. Drummond is already a good scorer in the post and even though he needs some work in the defensive end it shouldn't be nothing he can't overcome. It's always easier to build around a team with either a sick big or a sick PG and the pistons got themselves one here.
Career Average: 18.1 ppg 12.4 rpg 3.7 bpg
Hindsight: His ratings are so sick right now and although he was a disappointment in the early stages of his career he has sure come along nicely over the last 3-4 seasons. Defense was supposed to be one of is main weaknesses but he has never averaged less than 3 bpg. Given his ratings, Drummond has been a slight disappointment offensively over the course of his career. He has A+ inside and still can't get over that 22 ppg hump. It might have a lot to do with the caliber of team he's been on though. Great player, picked appropriately here.
2.
Draft Time: Shabazz Muhammad SF 6'7'' 220 21 B C+ C B B- A
Thoughts: The Celtics were going to pick between Drummond and Shabazz here depending on who fell so it was pretty much a no brainer. They were the only two mentioned in the notes as possible #1 selections so it only makes sense Bazz gets taken here. Great slot right here for the Celtics as they were assured a sick player regardless (barring any major busts). Bazz looks like a 20 ppg player at the very least. I'm not sure he's the cornerstone of a championship caliber team though.
Career Average: 25.2 ppg 8.9 rpg 2.3 spg
Hindsight: Shabazz arguably turned out to be the best player in this draft and i almost think it's not really close. Drummond has been nice but Shabazz has just been so sick and has won a ship. He had a four year stretch in which he averaged 28 ppg or more and has made 8 all star game appearances and 7 all league first teams. That's sick. An often overlooked aspect of his game also is his ability to rebound. He's never averaged less than 7.7 rpg, great for an SF. I turned out to be wrong, he is the cornerstone of a ship caliber team.
3.
Draft Time: Kyle Anderson PF 6'10'' 239 21 B- C- B- B- C+ A
Thoughts: I honestly didn't really like this pick. I understand the Celtics maybe needed a big but i just didn't feel Kyle was the best player available at this point. I would have picked Rasheed whose ratings look just as good as Shabazz almost or Hollowell. Kyle looks like a nice all around player but usually those players turn into solid role gimmick players in these leagues from what i've seen and i don't think kyle will be any different.
Career Average: 25.2 mpg 9.2 ppg 8.3 rpg
Hindsight: Well, he turned out alright, but there were definitely some better options here in hindsight, i'll cover those later in the article. As far as Kyle goes, he's been a solid role gimmick player just like i envisioned for him. His passing is good and he does everything solid but nothing great or real good. He wasn't with Boston that long so at least it looks like they might have traded him for something good. Disappointing production for the #3 pick over the course of his career.
4.
Draft Time: Rasheed Sulaimon SG 6'4'' 180 22 B- B C- C+ C A
Thoughts: I loved the pick here to be honest. I think he can potentially be just as good as Shabazz is projected to be. His offensive ratings are already nice and it seems like the only thing he has to work on is his defense. The only other player i probably would have considered here is Jeremy Hollowell. Spence usually does a good job of putting camps into his players so i'm sure Rasheed will reach his full potential with Spence as his gm.
Now: Retired
Hindsight: Damn, wtf happened to this dude? If i remember correctly he looked great after Spence dropped a shit load of camps on this dude. I felt Rasheed would reach his full potential with Spence but it seems his full potential was never really that great to begin with. He was probably designed to be a bust the more i think about it. He's not even in the league no more, crazy. If you look back on the drafts Warriors seem to pick a lot of busts. Crazy how they still manage to win so many games despite that fact.
5.
Draft Time: Jeremy Hollowell SG 6'6'' 198 21 C+ B+ C B- C- A
Thoughts: I liked Jeremy as high as 3 and liked him just as much as Sheed if not more. Dude looks like a stud already if you were just to put RC's into him asap. It's hard to get a superstar outside of the top 3 so i don't think he is one, but he can definitely be a 20 ppg career scorer easily off natural development alone it seems. He might make an all star game here or there but he should be a good 2nd 3rd option on a good team in the future.
Career Average: 24.3 ppg 5.6 rpg
Hindsight: He surpassed any expectations i had for him. I probably expected hit out of Rasheed before Hollowell. He is a monster on both ends of the court and is coming off back to back 28 ppg+ seasons on a pretty good team. I previously said he'd be a nice 2nd or 3rd option, but he turned out to be an excellent #1 option type player. I don't think Broph even expected Hollowell to be so good, he was only supposed to make 2 all star games at most according to the notes and he's already made 4. Great pick here.
6.
Draft Time: Kevin Ferrell PG 5'11'' 174 21 C C- B+ B+ D A
Thoughts: Meh, i hate these fucking lotto point guards that come into the league with no offensive game whatsoever, reminds me of Abdul Gaddy and shit. He could be a pretty solid starter and a great distributor for a good team if he reaches his potential, but he'll never be an all star caliber player or nothing like that so i'm not to fond of the pick. I project to be a solid backup point guard at best in the future to be honest. I don't think you take backups in the first half of the lotto, but that's just me.
Career Average: 28.7 mpg 7.7 ppg 6.8 apg 1.1 topg
Hindsight: I turned out to be slightly wrong. Although i did predict he'd be a good distributor and a solid point guard over the course of his career, i didn't think he'd be starting for the majority of it and i sure as heck didn't expect him to be starting for a championship caliber team like he did for the celtics. He's extremely efficient and he's very solid, better than picking a bust like a lot of people do here though.
7.
Draft Time: Brandon Ashley PF 6'10'' 230 21 B C- D- C+ C+ A
Thoughts: I like the pick, i have no idea why, but it probably has more to do with his ability in real life than it does his ratings or notes here. I think he could become a B+ B+ B+ guy in the future if groomed correctly and it doesn't hurt that broph said he could become a very good player if given time. The only other guy i probably would have taken here is JP Tokoto. I Ashley could become a 16/10/2 type player in his prime.
Career Average: 10.9 ppg 9.7 rpg 2.9 bpg
Hindsight: Well, that 16/10/2 type player i predicted, never came to fruition. He had a 16/11/4 year, but hasn't come close to reaching that since his career year in 2021. I was surprised he turned into the beast shot blocker that he did. He's been more of a role player throughout his career and a heck of a defensive presence coming off the bench. Dude never really did turn into that very good player he had the potential to become.
8.
Draft Time: J.P. Tokoto SF 6'7'' 200 22 B C- C C+ B- A
Thoughts: I like the pick here. Not because i think he's going to turn into a beast steal and become a star, but because there's not much really left on the board and it looks like he might have at least some upside. As broph wrote: "the scouts like his upside" so i thought that would be a good sign and it looks like he's nice utility man defensively with the ability to get both steals and blocks. I think he can become a nice little 14/7/2/2 guy if he reaches his potential. A nice 5th starter or 6th man in my opinion.
Career Averages: 29.0 mpg 11.0 ppg 7.8 rpg
Hindsight: He turned out decent. Those numbers are pretty good considering his lack of consistent playing time over the course of his career. He's averaging double digits in bench minutes. He's been on like 7 teams though so no one seems to want to keep him and the block aspect of his game never really did show up in his production. I don't know if he was camped regularly, but it looks like he fell short of his potential.
9.
Draft Time: Hanner Perea PF 6'9'' 240 22 C+ D+ D+ B+ A- B
Thoughts: I feel like there's nothing but scrubs left here at this point. Given the currently crop of draftees to choose from, i like the perea pick. Looks like a good post presence who can come in and start right away. His rebounding is already elite and although his shot blocking might be in question, he should be solid defensively regardless. Broph labeled his offense a lost cause in the notes so a defensive specialist is all he'll ever be. I think he'll be a starter for most of his career.
Career Average: 8.6 ppg 9.4 rpg 1.4 bpg
Hindsight: Well, his rebounding sure didn't disappoint. He's hitting fa this year and he's never really been anything more than a role player, on some pretty good teams i might add. He was never supposed to be an offensive thread so the 8.6 over the course of his career seems like a bonus. The only thing you can really be disappointed about is his lack of blocks over the course of his career. With someone who comes in as a defensive specialist i would at least expect at minimum a 2.0 bpg guy. Solid pick here regardless, good post presence.
10.
Draft Time: Marcus Paige PG 6'1'' 165 22 C B+ B- C+ D- A
Thoughts: I'm not in love with the pick, but i don't think i'd be in love with any pick at this point. It seems like it's just pick between a handful of guys and hope one of them blows up. The PG class kind of sucked in this draft, but if i were a gm i think i might have considered taking this dude over Ferell if i were looking for one. It just seems like he's gonna be a good scorer at the very least and might even have some upside to become something more. His notes are very underwhelming though :/
Now: Retired
Hindsight: Yea, dude sucked balls. A boom or bust pick that busted it looks like and i was dead wrong on the Ferell comparison. Ferell ended up being a more impactful player in the league and i don't even remember any sort of contribution Marcus Paige might have had in his tenure in UOSL4 to be honest. I have no stats to point out so let's just assume dude was a beast and lit it up with 20/12 for 7 seasons before retiring. Hall of famer no doubt. nah, dude was probably a scrub.
11.
Draft Time: Omar Calhoun SG 6'3'' 185 21 B B- D+ B- C B
Thoughts: Ummm, awk. I get the feeling he's already reached the pinnacle of what he'll ever be. Maybe with some RC's he can be all B's, i guess. But what's the point if he's gonna be a scrub anyways? amirite? I mean, dude didn't even have notes. I know some guys don't have notes for a reason and sometimes end up being steals but i highly doubt that's the case with this dude. I could easily be wrong and this dude could become the next Tony Farmer impact wise, but nah. Dude looks like a finished product. Not a bad risk at this point though.
Career Average: 19.1 mpg 7.4 ppg 3.3 rpg
Hindsight: Damn, what's with all these guys being in free agency this year. Another guy from the 2016 draft to be in FA this offseason and he turned out to be pretty solid if you ask me. For the most part, dude kind of sucked though. His career high in points came in his rooke year and hasn't hit double figures since and his field goal percentages that last two years have been absolutely horrible. Safe to say i was right on this guy, one of the few times i am. His points are decent considering his playing time, but he's inefficient as fuck.
12.
Draft Time: Alex Murphy SF 6'9'' 200 21 C+ B- B- C+ D A
Thoughts: Oh damn, how did i miss this guy. This dude was under my radar until he was selected. He has pretty nice ratings, especially his handles and it looks like he has upside. I go over to his notes to check him out more, and it says: "he's an intriguing prospect with nice upside". Well damn, the Spurs might have got themselves a steal right here with this guy. Definitely seems like a boom or bust type though so i could be getting ahead of myself a little here.
Now: Killed himself
Hindsight: Yep, after sucking it up and completely busting, he ended up driving himself off a cliff. This would be awk if i completely missed him and he's on someones roster or in fa and has nice numbers.
13.
Draft Time: Steven Adams C 7'0'' 235 21 C D- F+ B+ C+ A
Thoughts: Ehh, i guess he's a seven footer and you can't teach height right. Well, despite his height it looks like he sucks balls. I mean F+ in handling? are you serious? dude has hands of a kwame brown with that grade. You probably have to have like 0 speed, 0 handles, 5 passing to get a grade that low. Safe to say, the bucks didn't waste any of their scouting reports on his handles. His defense looks nice i guess, but everything else is pretty below average. He looks like someone you usually take a flyer on early in the 2nd round.
Now: 2.6 ppg 5.7 rpg
Hindsight: Yea, he never really became much of anything to be quite honest with you. The best part of his game is his rebounding and that wasn't even his specialty coming in. He hardly blocked shots, he hardly made any contributions worth noting over the course of his career. The only thing he's improved on since entering the league is a +1 in handles and a +1 in rebounding and everything else is the same so it's safe to say that A scouted with just that, scouted. A scrub player, at least he's still in the league unlike some other guys.
