TMACZ POWER RANKINGS
#1 - Los Angeles Lakers: 20-9
The Lakers are coming off a championship season and look to repeat. I see no reason why they should drop off from the rankings after retaining everybody and being able to drop some points into Harrison's (who are absolute studs now). The Lakers front 7 players are definitely the best in the league. They have a great balance of scorers, defenders, rebounders, and passers there. Wiltjer has been a stud at PF/C for the Lakers putting up career numbers. Oh yeah, and they have the reigning MVP. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lakers holding of the trophy once again at seasons end.
#2 - Phoenix Suns: 26-9
Game game game.... What is going on? Never did I expect game to build the solid team that he has now. Caffey and Daniels were great draft picks and are the cornerstone of this franchise, but the trades Kanter, Egwu, and Theisen has made this the deepest frontcourt in the league! The thing I love about the Suns is that they have an elite defense. Egwu, Hartman, Kanter, and Caffey are elite defenders in this league. This is the main reason that they will have success in the playoffs. Offensively, they can get better but when you have a defense like theirs it really doesn't matter
#3 - Houston Rockets: 27-12
I was surprised more than anyone to see an extremely talented Rockets team barely squeeze into the playoffs last year. After a solid TC and the acquiring of a real PG (FINALLY), the Rockets have turned into a contender overnight. Defensively, the are few better than the rockets. Offensively, even though they are scoring 110ppg I feel there is more potential there. If it were not for John Wall carrying them at 28ppg, there offense would be back to where it was last year. Seth Radejevic has been a little disappointing thus far only putting up 19ppg and averaging 3.3topg, but I'm sure he'll pick it up. Hoover, Gottileb, and Looney provide great defense as important role players. Great team with a lot of promise for the future.
#5 - New York Knicks: 21-16
I may have them a little high, but I feel like the Knicks have one of the most talented teams in the league. They are struggling a little at 21-16 but they just have too many weapons in Blackshear, Perry, and Barton and an amazing defensive frontcourt with Birch and Biyombo not to be a top 5 team in this league. It's been rumored that Outlawz wants to take the team apart, but I think once they start playing to their true potential, he'll change his mind.
#6 - Chicago Bulls: 18-11
Arroyo has been reliant on great TC after Great TC to put together this team. McKnight and Blaylock have both exploded the last couple TCs for the Bulls and are an integral part of their success. The main turnaround, however, has been the tremendous play of the 28th pick in the draft. Tanner Wade. In the draft games he put up decent stats, but the Bulls have been a perfect fit for his outside-orientated game. This guy is a stud. Bulls are one of the best teams on offense with Derrick Rose being acquired, but if a team gets hot against them in the PO's they could be out early with a sub-par defense.
#7 - Boston Celtics: 22-11
The Celtics seemed prepared to undergo a semi-rebuilding phase, but that all changed after they acquired Joseph and Baldwin on the cheap from the Kings. Now they have a complete starting lineup and are destined to reach yet another 50 win season. Parker, Bazz, and Joseph form one of the best offensive trios in the league, but the play of their role players has been mediocre. Defensively, they have a lot of guys that will get you stats (blocks/steals), but they still give up around 108ppg which leads me to believe they don't have good positional defenders (ala LERON BLACK). Celtics are talented as usual, but I don't see them as leader to win the ship this year like I would say in past years.
#8 - Memphis Grizzlies: 25-15
Traves has a championship team on his hands no doubt. It's unfortunate that he hasn't put in the work to upgrade his players. What happened to traves? This guy was posting and writing articles in the Winter....smh...The Grizzlies would be sitting in mediocrity if in were not for a lucky break they caught in the lotto to land the best SF in the league currently. Their team is aging and if traves doesn't do something fast they are going to go to waste...They need a real PG. Brent Bach has shown flashes of being a solid PG, but he's a TO whore who needs to be shipped out ASAP. WHY IS ALEKSY COLEMAN NOT STARTING?! That is all I have to say about the Grizz
#9 - Detroit Pistons: 19-13
Oh my young panda. Why do you smoke weed on school property? Not the brightest of ideas. Anyway, back to real life... Yeah uh, no way this team should be struggling this much. Once Hammons wakes up they should be a top 3 team in the league. Is he just in a slump or is it just old age finally catching up to him? I honestly don't know what's wrong with this team, but they need to make some changes whether through DC or through a trade.
#10 - Philedelphia 76ers: 17-13
The 76ers looked like they were headed for another mediocre season with the roster they had....That was until sved, the guy who wants to kill people, dealt Drummond for free to Pat. Suddenly because of the addition of Andre, the 6ers have turned into a contender and a top 10 team in the league. He and Austin (who is having a career year) have teamed up to form one of the best frontcourts in the league. Peeler, Gilchrist, and Newman have also been contributing a lot on offense for the 76ers. Their starting 5 is loaded with guys who are good on offense,... The same can't be said on the other side of the court. Lol @ them giving up 110ppg... Peeler and Austin are going to get torched by opposing SFs and Cs and it's not even funny. Celtics will have a field day against them with Bazz at SF and Parker @ C.
#11 - Charlotte Bobcats: 18-11
I've liked the Bobcats youth for a couple years now so it's good to see that youth develop and turn into wins for a franchise that hasn't been good since UOSL4 began. The emergence of offensive guru Thomas Long has been a welcoming sight along with the addition of Duncan, who has been killing it in limited minutes as a rookie. Oh yeah, they also have a decent PG/SG duo who only put up 50ppg. The good thing about the Trier/Calbert duo is that they actually play some defense unlike others in the league. I like this team a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if they go deeper then expected in the playoffs. Bright future.
#12 -Los Angeles Clippers: 18-15
Styro has built this team through amazing drafting. He has drafted Reid, Marks, Lyles, and Dooley (turned into Baugh) over the last 4 drafts. That is INSANE! They have an amazing amount of good youth on their team that is contributing that it's quite scary. They also have some very good veteran presence on their team with Quincy Miller and Teague. Both of them they were able to get on the cheap. Defensively there are some holes on the team as they lack any paint-protector and only average 5 blocks per game, but they are young and they have the pieces to become a championship contender right down the road. They are good this year, but not good enough to take it all the way. Give the a year or two and they'll be ready.
#13 - Golden State Warriors: 20-14
I'm not quite sure that Spence made the right decision in trying to compete right away with this team. IMO he should have dealt his veterans for youth and rebuilt one more year... But that didn't happen and the Warriors look like a solid team. Farmer and Pinson have been tremendous as the new additions for the Warriors, but guys like Jett and Clay getting significant minutes shows me that they still are a little low talent-wise. I'm sure Spence will figure it out.
#14 - Minnesota Timberwolves: 18-18
I don't want to be judgemental here and please don't get offended, but I honestly don't like what Trunks has done with the Wolves. They had an extremely talented team with amazing youth and he kept them all and they failed to progress like they should if their team wasn't so loaded. He should have dealt that youth for a star, but was unable and now look where they are. A borderline playoff team with no prospects... It's a sad sight to see.. This is a first round team right here folks.
#15 - Washington Wizards: 17-16
The Wizards have seen a couple impressive young fellas step up...Those being Sidoti and Weber. Both are great offensively both struggle on defense. The Wizards used to be known for they great defense. Now they are good, but lack that dominance. Along with the emergence of those two players they have also seen the decline of the main part of their team. Terrence Jones has seen a major drop off in his game the last couple years and it has hurt the Wizards. Still, they are a very solid team with Bhullar at Center and Alondes running the point.
